Haig Yazdjian
Haig Yazdjian is Armenian, born in Syria. Since 1980, he lives and works in Greece. It is strange, but being in Greece drove him to discover the seductive elements of oriental music and find out in oud the way to express his musical pursuits.
His first album, titled Talar ("Evergreen"), was released in 1996, establishing him as one of the most talented and promising composers of his generation. This was followed by the second album titled, Garin and the single, Gift, which were highly received by the audience and critics. Haig Yazdjian began collaborations with important artists in Greek music. In 2000, the music for the theatrical performance "The Beast on the Moon" was released on CD, which marked a new turning point in the musical quest. This was followed by the albums, Yeraz (2001) and Amalur (2007) which signify expressive and artistic maturity.
Haig Yazdjian has worked with many important Greek composers and singers as well as soloists of international prestige. Among them, Eleni Vitali, Fotini Velesiotou, Nikos Portokaloglou, Nikos Xydakis, George Dalaras, Savina Giannatou, Maria Farantouri, Dimitra Galani, Elli Paspala, David Lynch, Giotis Kiourtsoglou, Michalis Nikoloudis, Dave Spilain, Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Djivan Gasparyan, Ara Dinkjan, Theodossii Spassov, Glen Velez and others.
In 2005, he participated, together with a hand - picked small group of Greek craftsmen, in Loreena McKennitt's album, entitled, An Ancient Muse, as well as in the world tour that followed.
